That isn't happening this year. So I imagined myself there painting these two from photos from previous years.

Above is from a walk at the <a href=" French, Breads, Quick Breads, Clementine, Fig, Parsley, Tangerine, Snack, Appetizer 998 ratings Ingredients Nonstick cooking spray or butter 4 ounces/115 grams very cold soft goat cheese 4 moist, plump dried figs (such as Kalamata), cut into 1/4-inch bits ⅓ cup/20 grams finely chopped fresh parsley 1 ½ teaspoons finely chopped fresh rosemary ½ teaspoon finely chopped fresh thyme 1 ¾ cups/225 grams all-purpose flour 1 tablespoon baking powder ½ teaspoon fine sea salt ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 3 large eggs, at room temperature ⅓ cup/80 milliliters whole milk, lukewarm ⅓ cup/80 milliliters olive oil 1 tablespoon honey 1 clementine or 1/2 tangerine Ingredient Substitution Guide Preparation Center a rack in the oven and heat the oven to 350 degrees. Coat an 8- to 9-inch loaf pan with baking spray (or butter the pan). Cut the goat cheese into 1/2-inch pieces. It’s a sticky, messy job, so don’t aim for perfection. Refrigerate the cheese until needed. In a small bowl, toss together the figs, parsley, rosemary and thyme; keep at hand. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt and pepper. Working in a medium bowl, whisk the eggs until blended, then whisk in the milk, oil and honey. Pour the wet ingredients over the flour mixture, and, using a sturdy spatula, stir until the dough is almost blended. You’ll still see streaks of flour, and that’s fine. Scatter the fig mixture over the dough, and then cover with the chilled bits of goat cheese. Grate the zest of the clementine or tangerine over the cheese. Using as few strokes as possible, stir everything together. Once again, it might not be perfect, and, once again, that’s fine. Scrape the dough into the pan, and use the spatula to poke the dough into the corners and to even the bumpy top. Bake for 34 to 38 minutes or until the top is golden, the cake has started to pull away from the sides of the pan, and, most important, a tester inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Unmold the cake onto a rack, turn it right side up and let it cool. You can serve the cake when it’s slightly warm (it’s not so easy to cut then, but it’s delicious) or when it is at room temperature. Cut into thick slices. Wrapped well, the cake will keep for a day or two at room temperature. We also add a handful of shredded emmental cheese, but any will be good: cheddar, jack, etc. Try blue, or mix! As long as you have the flour/egg/oil ratio right, this is really one of those whatevers-in-the-pantry kind of recipes. 124 This is helpful Like this recipe? This is the upland area of "middle beach" in Gustavus is between the
Salmon River and Good River. We that live between the two rivers call
it our beach. There are no roads to it and it is part of the Nature
Conservancy. In the spring it is very colorful with flowering sweet
gale and rusty colored horse tail.
This is a view from one of my walking routes, along the Salmon River in Gustavus. I painted it in February before going to Florida to visit relatives
and have cataract surgery. When I came home in March it looked a lot
different than I remembered..... everything did.... and I adjusted some
of the color and found a lot of things to fix. Since the surgery things
are much brighter.... I squint now looking out the window at our snow
covered field. Colors are more vivid; most amazing are blues. Carole Bakerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03874480972964140819noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4820147259507857242.post-78255157758778734092020-01-23T17:50:00.000-09:002020-01-23T17:50:46.824-09:00Finally......
This is a collage of some of my small postcard-size watercolors, painted in 2014 and 2015. These were all views from my south facing windows. I was able to get two images from most of the paintings. I did this last winter and it was in my show in Juneau in July.
I painted most of the poppies in this last summer but was at the Greuning Cabin residency when the delphiniums were in bloom, so finished it this summer. I brought each flower in to paint in the studio. With all the dry weather this year, the spikes were rather small.

The background is black gouache. I painted it twice. The first background was a bluish grey, but turned out very splotchy, which almost brought me to tears.
I've been so busy with my other blog, I forget that this one is here. I spent untold hour painting this. It is on a cradled birch panel. I probably worked on it many more hours than I needed too, and if I didn't stop myself would have kept on going for a lot longer. Finally put my name on it and stopped looking at it for a few weeks ago and now it looks OK.
My husband and I have been going to Florida this time of year for the last few years, but this year we decided to stay home. And I'm so glad we did. It has been beautiful with lots of sunny days and lovely snow.

This is one of several paintings I've worked on in the last couple of months, from a photo taken on a nearby path. I painted most of this several years ago. I had intended to put a car
on the road, but couldn't draw one without a photo from the overpass
where I'd take the photos that I used. I finally finished it as is.

For over a week around Christmas and New Years, snow on the trees and hoar frost made for a winter wonderland. I've been trying to paint some of it since then. I had the honor of spending two weeks of August as an Artist in Residence at the Ernest Gruening Cabin near Juneau. The cabin and surrounding forest is a state park and the cabin opens for artists residency in the summer month.

Ernest Gruening was the Governor of the Alaska Territory
from 1939 until 1953, and one of the first United States Senators from Alaska. The cabin was a get-away for his family and he an his wife lived in it much of the time after he retired.

My goal for the residency was to start painting larger with oils. I began the above piece the second week and worked on it for much of the rest of the month of August and some of September.... not steadily, as I've been working on other pieces too. I worked on it from photographs taken on one of the trails in the park.

You can see some little watercolors I did at the cabin on my Watercolor Postcards blog.

This painting was purchased by the Juneau-Douglas City Museum in December.
It has been more than a couple of weeks since I did this painting of my favorite trees at the beach. This was the first time I've finished a painting with cumulus clouds in oil. I do remember doing one that got wiped out. There are just so few days here with these clouds, especially this year, and there hasn't been another one since I painted this. I don't remember so many rainy days.Carole Bakerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03874480972964140819noreply@blogger.com0
