Edge of the Forest

6x6 inches
I just finished this watercolor/gouache from the same photo that I used for the little oil painting below. They were both from a photo I took a couple of summers ago while looking for orchids near the Bartlett Cove Road.

The watercolor looks more like the photo, but I like the light in this one better..... this scan of it could be better.

Middle Beach

oil painting 8x10

This is the upland area of "middle beach" in Gustavus is between the Salmon River and Good River. We that live between the two rivers call it our beach. There are no roads to it and it is part of the Nature Conservancy. In the spring it is very colorful with flowering sweet gale and rusty colored horse tail.

I painted this from photos  and two little watercolors that I did at the  beach in May.  You can see them on my other blog.

Some Recent Oil Paintings

20x16 inches
... and some not so recent.  Most of them sit around in my studio for a while and get additions and changed before I sign them and put them on my web site.

This one got changed a lot throughout the process, especially after my cataract surgery.  Its a muskeg off the road between Gustavus and Bartlett Cove.

Here is a fall view looking East from the dock road in Gustavus.

Edge of the Field

watercolor 17x22
This is a view from one of my walking routes, along the Salmon River in Gustavus.  I painted it in February before going to Florida to visit relatives and have cataract surgery.  When I came home in March it looked a lot different than I remembered..... everything did.... and I adjusted some of the color and found a lot of things to fix.  Since the surgery things are much brighter.... I squint now looking out the window at our snow covered field.  Colors are more vivid; most amazing are blues.

Finally......

This is a collage of some of my small postcard-size watercolors, painted in 2014 and 2015.  These were all views from my south facing windows.   I was able to get two images  from most of the paintings.  I did this last winter and it was in my show in Juneau in July.

Though this is old, finally, I'm back posting on this blog, such as it is or has been. When I'm painting regularly, putting things here and on my other blog seem to keep me going.
