After painting the hemlocks in gouache, I went back to the one I did in watercolor and worked on it some more. The first state is here.
watercolor 9 1/2 x 7
And here it is with more work. I had cropped some on the left side of the first version, but left it in on this one. I used glazes of watercolor and a little bit of gouache. Looks lots better to me.
I've been doing some value studies of the trees out my window for the Wet Canvas challenge that I discussed on the previous post. Here's one I did yesterday.
gouache 5 x 5

Very nice, indeed, Carole. The valu study is facinating.
Carole, I liked seeing the two states of the painting of the hemlocks. The revised image is wonderful. Your added touches gave it more depth. Nice work! I also like your value sketch. I love monochrome so I may be biased, but I think it's lovely! I very much like how you left the paper utterly white for the snowy foreground.
Carole, these hemlocks are beautiful, I like them all. Hope you are warm, looking forward to Florida!!??
James, Debbie, and Mary Anne, Thank you all very much for your comments. I'm feeling good about this painting and really appreciate the feed back.
Stunning! I'm excited to see your work in gouache which I really like and want to do more of. So thanks for the link to the other gouache artists too.
Thanks you, Jana. I love going over to your site too.
