CRANE AND LILIES

                                                 watercolor and gouache   8.5x8.5 inches

This was going to be pure watercolor, but I painted the background pattern too dark... the origami crane got lost in the pattern.  So I painted over the too-dark pattern with gouache.

What a beautiful painting. You must have a lot of patience. Makes me want to give guache a whirl, I have an unused box of them.

Thank you, Polly. When you try the gouache, you'll find out that they darken (usually) when they dry

Thank you, Jane.

And thank you too, Ellen. I did a woodblock similar to this a few years ago.... http://carolebakerart.com/#woodcuts/9

Oh my gosh, I just discovered this blog of yours and this painting is wonderful. I love your tip on how you fixed the background with gouache. I have lots of paintings with problem backgrounds and am going to try the gouache.
Have you tried the Painting Ground from Daniel Smith for fixing mistakes?

Barbara, Glad you found my blog and thank you for commenting. Good luck with the gouache.

Gorgeous--love everything about it: the color, the objects, the patterns: everything I want to achieve in a still life!

Thank you Laura. That's an encouraging complement.
