OFF THE PARK ROAD

Here I am again questioning my sanity for having two blogs, since I can barely do justice to one. I've been working most days in the studio for the past month on gouache, and posting some of what I've done, since they are small, on my other blog Watercolor Postcards. Since some people might actually look for something here, here is a little one I did yesterday.

gouache 4x4"

Thank you, Anonymous. I'm glad you like my trees. They are painted with gouache. I try to see the different values of light and dark in the trees and find the right paint to put down in the right place. A good book to read is Carlson's Guild to Landscape Painting. It has a chapter on trees.

I grew up in a rural area in upstate NY, and your paintings remind me of my childhood. I know you're in Alaska... :) There is a certain peace and majesty about your trees.
